Jenny vs. The Pool

See The Movie
My morning began in the usual way, when I'm here at home.

I just returned from Dallas where I attended an awesome conference hosted by Enliven International. While I was gone, my friend Grover stayed here to take care of my Yorkie, "Jenny the Dog", not to be confused with "Jenny the Human", my niece and her namesake.

Every morning at 9:06, exactly, the pool pump turns on and the water is divirted to the solar panels on the roof, causing air to be flushed out through the pipes just under the water. Jenny has quite a reaction to this - and she waits for it to happen each day.

She's memorized the sounds of the whole process. The series of little clicks that the pump makes when it turns on, the sound of the water going to the roof (where the solar heaters are), and the sound of the air making its way through the pipe to the pool, and, of course, the sights and sounds of the massive eruption that occurs.

The neighbors don't like it much, either - since she's loud as she barks at, and bites at, the water. We try to keep her inside around 9:06am, if we can remember, just to be sure she doesn't wake up the neighborhood.

But she loves the routine of it - and she knows just when it will happen each day, and she actually waits for it.

On one of his visits, my friend Grover shot a video of it. Click on the image (above) to see it.

Yay! Jenny! You know, Noma, you are responsible for the fact that she's kind of a freak dog. One of these days she is going to fall in. Can she swim?

Of course she can swim! She fell in three days after we got her two years ago in January. The solar was turned off and the temperature of the water was 46 degrees. She didn't like it much, but she stayed afloat until I rescued her. Now she knows where the steps are, so she can get out by herself. Thanks for the video, Grover.

WHAT A GREAT WEBSITE!! You've definitely come
into the 21st century. Do you remember the first
"Yellow Pages" ad that read, "Now There's Noma?"
It feels like you've come full circle.

We're so proud of you, and thrilled to call you
"friend."

We love you, Phyllis and Dick

THIS is priceless! I'm afraid poor Jenny's going to need therapy soon, however, because she's going to feel like an utter failure after too many unsuccessful attempts to slay the pool beast. I have a teeny couch I can ship to you if you want to save a bundle and do the head shrinking yourself.

It's so nice to know you've got a spot on the Web now, Noma. Blogs are definitely the way to go. (Thanks, Grover!)

I think Jenny is a good Yorkie protecting her humans! If your neighbor's aren't up by 9:06 am, then Jenny should be rousing those sleepyheads anyway!
